I was just about to get a MUCH wanted puppy. I have wanted a small, carry with me, dress up cute, make all the people go aaawwwww, puppy. I got the call, she is born! YEAH!!!! The next step is a hard one... but I can handle it.
That step is getting Craig on board with getting a dog. Not as hard as I thought it was going to be. HE SAID okay.... not with the enthusiasm I wanted... but he did not say NO! So, it was all good!
Now we are off to see the puppy. I was so excited. Ring to door bell... and we hear the sounds of dogs, BARK, BARK,BARK!!! Most times that would have gotten on my nervous FAST, but not to day... I was about to hold my pappy! We say our hellos, how ya doings... yadda yadda yadda. I WANNA SEE MY PUPPY! I yelled... (in my head :) ) Then she ask, are you ready to meet her? I say sure. Trying to be more calm and collective!
She is the cutest thing I have EVER seen. SO small. I fell head over heals in LOVE!!! Ever Craig was googly eyed over her! I wanted to take her home right that minute! I know, I am crazy. Puppies are more work than babies... So, we stayed and loved on her trading back and forth between both of us. We finally gave her back to momma dog, our puppy was ready to eat. She tried to nurse from Craig's finger.... ( that was his aaawwww moment!!!)
So, now to get ready. DON'T TELL THE KIDS YET...or we will never hear the end of it. Can we get her today. When will she be ready. Can we go see her. I wanna be the first to hold her... and on and on! Let the truth be known, I was thinking all of that in my brain!!! I had told friends about her, gave her a name, showed pictures. Craig had told his work peeps. We were in FULL gear for PUPPY TIME!!! Only had to wait until July 24th. Then our puppy would be HOME!
Now, things take a turn. I bought a can of puppy food. You know, getting ready! The old wives tale about counting your chickens before they hatched... well, you guessed it. I did it.
The phone rings. I see who it is, worry sets in. She never calls. What is wrong. She is calling to tell me some bad news.
My puppy just died.
My heart sank.
I tell her I understand, and its okay, I know you did everything you could have.
With only spending 97 cents on a can of IAMS puppy food, I paid a much bigger price.
A broken heart....
